I found these casual, flirty white dresses on Mango this week, just perfect for any bride needing to make her mark at a bridal event wearing the traditional white. If your summer is going anything like ours here in Portland, don't be afraid to add a cardigan or a colorful scarf to keep you warm :)

This weekend I am braving the yearly search for a bathing suit. I've been scoping out a couple of my favorites online this week and I have landed at the same place I always do: The Crew. I am so predictable when it comes to suits. Colors: blue, grey and white. Pattern: stripes, polka dots or anything that resembles them. Fit: comfortable but still fresh and young. Style: classic. How many suits do I have that already have polka dots on them? It's not worth the embarrassment of sharing. But do I stop looking at them? Of course not. Each year they are just different enough to call my name again and again...Brides, I know you're on the hunt too and I would steer you toward my alma mater, J. Crew. They never disappoint. Look smokin' on your honeymoon and skip the trendy metallics and crazy sequins, or the disappearing seats of bikini bottoms. Go with fresh sophistication :)

My two favorites? The Marina-striped ring bandeau suit and The Annik-stripe string bikini. In LOVE. I wish they carried more swim wear at their stores...

You can't go wrong with using a rustic table for any event, casual or traditional. Bring your chunky, worn, antiqued table outside and dress up with almost anything you've got! This tablescape is set with green and clear found bottles with fresh white hydrangea, a simple wooden box fit with summery succulents and lovely hand painted plates. I love the woven mats and pops of turquoise. Paired together it makes for a wonderfully bohemian combination of organic textures and bright accents.

Good morning! I took a little impromptu hiatus from blogging last week with the help of Blogger, as I was unable to post anything for a little while but I'm back! And I spotted this colorful, eclectic wedding shot by Hedi of Our Labor of Love the other day--such a fun, Anthropologie vibe with a tea length wedding dress, clusters of hanging origami birds and a collection of found wooden chairs that make you feel like you just stepped into a sweet family dinner.

Good morning! I have been waiting to share these gorgeous images with you for a while now and it's been well worth the wait. Diana Marie attended one of the coveted Jose Villa workshops last year and shot this wedding inspiration in a beautiful rustic adobe setting. It's a perfect collection of striking magenta and romantic soft pink coupled with earthy brown and red tones mimicking the gorgeous setting sun on a hot summer night. Ooh, I need to go on vacation...

I have been completely enraptured by Katie Ermilio. Her Fall 2011 collection is full of modern femininity, with gorgeous peek-a-boo backs, exquisite tailored pleats and ruffles and stunning hues of ruby red, royal blue, hot pink, black & a dreamy white that is perfectly easy on the eyes. Katie's grandmother was Grace Kelly's personal clothier and it would seem she is carrying on her family's tradition of timeless workmanship with her own line.

I always lean toward classic elegance over trendy for weddings, especially when it comes to clothing. Tailored designs and feminine details will always be in style and you will simply radiate at your bridal shower, rehearsal dinner and wedding with and air of sweet sophistication and refined beauty. And that is exactly why I love Katie Ermilio. Stunning!!!

What to wear: reader question!

Good morning! Today we are answering a Weddings Fresh reader question. Here is what bride-to-be Charmaine had to ask:

I'm getting married in beautiful old colonial park this July, and it is Chinese tradition for the bride to have 3 outfit changes - a wedding dress, an evening dress (typically something cheerful and colorful), and a traditional Chinese qipao.

I've found my other two dresses, but I've been looking for an evening gown for the past few months and can't seem to find options that are affordable and fit the bill for a garden wedding. Most brides wear floor-sweeping evening gowns in silks and jewel-tones, but that doesn't quite fit the aesthetic of an outdoor party. I'm having trouble finding an appropriate style that's floaty, light, and fun to dance in! I've considered shorter styles, but because I'm very petite (5"1), I'm worried that they might look very nondescript (and too informal) on me. On the other hand, the only floor-length styles I've liked (in terms of print/colour/material/aesthetic) are maxi-dresses that tend more towards being too informal-looking, because they aren't very tailored or fitted.

Three dresses in one day?! Girl, that sounds like a dream! But I understand the dilemma. Trying to find a formal gown that fits the less traditional atmosphere of a garden wedding, as well as looking elegant, sophisticated and chic all in a tiny 5'1" frame. I'm going to preface all of suggestions with this: get a tailor. Or at least have one on standby. To ensure the best fit and look for your petite figure without sacrificing style, it will be in your best interest to use a tailor to finish off your look. Perhaps even working with a local designer to create a dress just for you would be helpful as well. I'm not sure if you live here in Portland, but I would recommend Sarah Seven for a custom design.

With that said, here is what I have found:
I would choose a longer dress to stay true to the formality of the evening. It will help add elegance and sophistication. As far as the fit of the dress, focus on defining the smallest part of your body: your waist.
Adding a fitted bodice will also keep the dress from looking like it's swallowing you up! As for as the skirt, I am loving flowy chiffon or silk. Dresses in these fabrics are absolutely ideal for your garden setting and so very chic this summer. These enchanting dresses look perfectly dreamy in the twilight breeze and are airy enough to get your groove on until the late night.

The first 4 dresses are a little more on the glam side of things. Malene Birger, Antik Batik, Rachel Gilbert & Marc Jacobs all are show-stopping choices but if your budget doesn't include a designer price tag then perhaps not the choice for you. But that doesn't mean there aren't more dresses! As I searched through a ton of online stores and designers, I chose mostly from the Spring 2012 Amsale bridesmaid collection. I know, I know, it may seem unconventional to use a bridesmaid dress but what I have found is, it offers the unique balance between respecting the formal tradition of a wedding and the need to look chic and youthful. The silk chiffon fabric is stunning and the movement of the collection is breathtaking. Not to mention, Amsale offers a gorgeous array of colors that will fit your creamy sorbet color pallet!

I also spotted a couple other options from Shopbop.com. But I do caution you: the more voluminous the material, the greater the chance the dress could start wearing you, rather you wearing the dress. But with that said, it all depends on what it looks like once you put it on your body :) So I have chosen a couple other dresses that are a more than little of a step up from the everyday maxi dress but offer the same appeal and look as this hot summer trend.

There is something alluring about a rustic, outdoor wedding filled with the simplest of touches. Old country charm, homemade desserts, fresh garden flowers and an ancient over grown tree in the midst of a far reaching field...what is it that draws us in? I think it's all about home. It would seem if that rhyme is true we will have an over abundance of gorgeous, well watered flowers that will spring up May 1st :) But in the meantime, I think these pretty paper flowers from Scrapbooksetc.com will do just the trick to brighten up this gloomy weather. I wouldn't suggests these cute works of art for bouquets or vases, but they are ideal for decorating place cards, table numbers, or menu cards, as well as affixing them to walls or hanging them from above as well! Here is the Kenneth Pool Spring 2012 collection. I love how he keeps the trendy trumpet silhouette brides are crazy about, while emphasizing the natural waist with a beaded belt or silky tied bow. Why is this important? Because it draws your eye into the narrowest part of a your body, thus creating a fabulously feminine figure flattering just about anyone. Especially if you aren't very curvy, it will keep the dress from looking like it's just hanging on you :) I'm also glad to see so many sweet-heart necklines. It's nice to see the girly details stick around. So pretty!

Oh dear, it has been one of those weeks...well, maybe one of those months. Too many things to do with oh so little time. The age old balancing act of a mother is being put to the test these days and it looks like I am in need of an extra 10 hours in a week to complete my daily duties. You got a couple to spare? :) So I wish I had a more in depth "What to Wear" feature today but nevertheless, I leave you with this chic drop-waist lace dress from Free People. Good morning! Beautiful rays of sun are streaming into my kitchen this morning and it makes me so happy! I am completely in love with this Grecian inspired wedding shoot by Alchemy Fine Events, photographed by Jill Thomas. First, the bride's dress is absolutely fabulous and ideal for Greek summer weather. Isn't it stunning?! The tablescape is abundant and yet still simple enough to not distract from the magnificent backdrop, which is important. I spotted this gorgeous photo shoot by photographer Jessica Ruisan named, Evening Falls, on The Polka Dot Bride this morning and immediately fell in love. (No pun intended :)). A wonderfully enchanting collection of long, flowy gowns in a beautiful array of colors that are simply stunning. Long dramatic gowns are so romantic and with maxi dresses in high demand this season, your maids will look absolutely chic. My favorite? The peach Lisa Brown dress. I am obsessed! In fact I think I need it... :)

I thought this lovely bit of inspiration was quite fitting for a Monday morning, as I'm in need of extra strong coffee in my cup to get going today. Lisa from Studio del Fiore sent me this perfectly Portland, coffee inspired shoot. Reflecting on the now famous Portland lifestyle, Lisa and her team envision a small bridal shower or late intimate evening reception held in the familiar atmosphere of a coffee shop.

For those of you not from the Pacific Northwest and gulp down a cup of Dunkin' Donuts on your way out the door in the morning, you may not follow the hip vibe of Case Study Coffee but nevertheless, nothing could be more conversation simulating or comforting than a gathering at your local barista.

Here is Lisa to explain more:

We went the night time small reception and used soft yellows, caramels, oranges and creams with a touch of browns as our color palette, and tried to keep the decor simple and modern to fit with the coffee shops rich colors. The shoot took place at Case Study Coffee a local coffee shop owned and operated by two of the city’s best trained baristas.

The flowers designed by Studio del Fiore had a soft romantic feel with garden roses, berries and warm copper tones.

The beautiful cake designed by AK Cake design had the most gorgeous had crafted sugar flowers, which seems to be a dying art form.

The favors were custom made coffee cozy’s and a personal size bag of coffee beans. The cozy’s were made by Studio del Fiore and the coffee bean bags came from Swanky Tables with labels designed by 1^st Comes Love.

Isn't this fresh garden tabletop perfectly inviting?! And it's so simple to achieve. Using white and blue linens, lush greens on the the table and from above, and bread and cheese to start off the evening will create an ideal setting for an outdoor rehearsal dinner or bridal shower. I love that you don't even need flowers to create a gorgeous tabletop!

I spotted this photo of these fab bridesmaid dresses yesterday on Creative Montage FB page, and it inspired me to post about wearing brights. This is such a gorgeous picture--eclectic group of pinks and coral to create not only a stunning photo but a wonderful example of how your bridesmaids all have individual personalities and styles that can come together in quite a beautiful showing! Brights are everywhere this year, orange being the citrus forerunner, so you might as well take advantage of this fun trend while you can! And don't be afraid to give your best girls choices--lay down some guidelines such as tones, fabrics, lengths of skirts and even a specific designer or pair of designers, and leave it to them to create a colorful array of pretty maids! Oh and a quick note on the shoes: go nude. If you are being bold on top it's a perfect way to tone down the outfit and make your legs look long and lean!

Good morning! I'm always on the lookout for fresh ways to pretty-up outdoor spaces, and I've fallen for this one! Gorgeous glass baubles (or they could plastic which would be much lighter) that mimic the look of hanging light bulbs, but to soften the modern feel of the bulbs, a little flower is perfectly placed in each one. Hanging these from trees would give the effect of airy bubbles floating around in your reception or ceremony--so magical!

For this spring break Friday, we have Monique Lhuillier's fall 2011 collection. I have to admit, it completely slipped my mind that the first day of spring was this week...could be all the rain and wind we are experiencing! Nothing says bridal like Monique. She fulfills the fantasy of every girlie girl's dreams of a white wedding. I especially love the dress with the off-the-shoulder sleeves and sheer overlay. Such a beautiful neckline--simply stunning!

Loving: book page wreath

I've been a little out of it this week due to a lovely double ear infection and sinus infection. What?! Yeah, I have no idea how I go it, but I'm getting better each day! Anyway...love this book page wreath DIY project from Lisa Storms. So creative! The endearing detailed edges give it such a wonderful texture that makes it pop off the wall. It's a perfect item to hang these from the ceiling, in windows, or on backs of chairs for your wedding. And talk about cheap. Lisa hit up the dollar stores for random books and made a work of art! Real Wedding: Colleen + Eduardo

This morning we have a beautiful wedding sent to us from Levi Stolove Photography. Colleen + Eduardo wanted a to create a winter Brooklyn affair to celebrate their wedding, complete with their ceremony at the same church the Bride's grandparents were married in! So sweet. Their reception was held at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, where the bride's father performed with his group of bagpipers for some serious entertainment! Aren't the pink ranunculus and touches of grey dusty miller in their floral arrangements just beautiful?!

I woke up to a tiny ray of sun peaking through my blinds this morning and it has made me so happy! It's been too long since there has been any semblance of light in the morning. So to continue my dream of the sun returning to Portland, I decided a Mexican inspired table would be a perfect piece of inspiration for this Monday. Designed for an outdoor fiesta engagement party, Cake Ink. created a sweet cake table with adorable Mexican bird bunting, refreshing tea in antiqued glass bottles and a sun drenched color scheme! Love it!!

Happy Monday to you all! I received this gorgeous wedding last week from Kim of Punch floral and design studio here in Portland last week, and I struck by two things: first, how wonderfully fresh and modern the design was. The Sandbox Studios is a stunning industrial space that is the ideal blank canvas for any event designer. And second, how fantastically attractive the bride, groom and entire wedding party was! Seriously, they all look like their from a magazine shoot! Mallory and Patrick were married here in Portland, Oregon on August 7th, 2010 and were photographed by the talented duo, Phil + Kim. Congratulations to them and thank you again, Punch for sharing your work!

Good morning! There have been claims of a crazy snow storm hitting the Portland area for days now and finally it has arrived! Well, not a storm or even close to a couple of inches, but good enough for me to have a cozy day inside :)

If there is a wedding theme that never gets old to me it's the nautical theme. I love to see navy blue and yellow against crisp white and endearing touches of gold. It's so traditional and preppy, it's sweetness to my soul! The Caketress designed the amazing cake and mini cakes for this wedding, which seem to defy gravity with her now famous ruffle design inspired by Ralph Lauren runway (see here). And in collaboration with Platinum Events Group, they created a nautical themed wedding that is absolutely stunning!

Good morning! Have you ladies bought your maxi dress yet? This is one fashion trend this year that translates so beautifully into weddings. Gorgeous maxi dresses for your bridesmaids would be ideal this summer and if you are attending wedding showers and dinners you will be so chic in a long, free form maxi. Seriously, if you haven't jumped on this band wagon, you need to. I fell for one at Anthropologie the other day--it is perfectly satisfying knowing that it feels like I'm wearing a night gown but look like a million bucks. You will wear these dresses any and every where. Which is exactly what your maids want in a dress! Dress them up or down with thick leather belts, lightweight cardigan sweaters, and/or long necklaces--the a maxi dress is a staple in your closet this season.

{I'm highlighting the wonderful maxi collection at Anthropologie because I tried on a bundle the other day and fell in love with almost every single one, but you can find them just about anywhere :)}

What's one wedding trend that I am absolutely in love with this 2011 season? White, white and white!! Ooh, I love classic white weddings. So beautiful, stunning and wonderfully timeless. So when I saw this gorgeous wedding bouquets from Fluer:ology, I was excited to share them with you. This is one trend that really doesn't go out of style, but the best party about it being so chic this year is you can really play up the beautiful simplicity of white and add in layers of cream and off-white to create gorgeous depth. (And a little insider tip: Weddings Fresh is working on a beautiful white inspired wedding shoot to show off this fab trend! Can't wait to show you!!).

Fluer:ology used fresh mini calla lilies, dahlias, peonies, mums and garden roses for these bouquets and dressed them up with a deep bronze satin ribbon and crystal accents. All of them were designed for the same wedding, with each bridesmaid carrying a unique white bouquet held against their dark purple dresses. Quite the dramatic showing!
